Blockchain and Secure Computation in Medicine

Protecting patient privacy is of the utmost importance to UCLA, which includes ensuring the security of information stored in a person’s electronic health record.

Blockchain technology offers a secure way to store and share sensitive data. The Blockchain and Secure Computation in Medicine program leverages transformative technology breakthroughs in cryptography to enable and protect medical and health applications. These approaches include the ability to share data while preserving privacy and the application of AI technologies to medical data that is protected with encryption. This effort at UCLA is led by Sriram Sankararaman, Ph.D. and Amit Sahai, Ph.D., who have published foundational research in differential privacy in genomics and secure computation.
