About Us
The Department of Computational Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles is committed to transforming patient care by leveraging recent advances in artificial intelligence and genomics. A unique strength of UCLA is that on a single campus lies a prestigious medical school, a world-class research hospital, and nationally-ranked departments within the engineering school with significant strength in data sciences. The department provides a hub for collaborations across the UCLA campus to enable scientific discovery in biomedical data sciences and then works hand in hand with the UCLA Health System to apply these discoveries to improve patient care.
Everyone’s unique health journey is informed by data
Understanding the data is the key to providing the right treatment. Because of two scientific revolutions, today we have an unprecedented opportunity to understand health data to transform patient care. They are the genomic revolution that makes the collection of genetic data from millions of patients feasible and the big data revolution which is pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence. It's UCLA's responsibility to take advantage of this opportunity.
The Department of Computational Medicine was previously named the Department of Biomathematics which has a rich and long history in mathematical and computational biology including a graduate program approaching its 40th year. Professor Eleazar Eskin is the Department Chair.
