Profile
Simon Lee
Simon Lee began the PhD program in biomathematics in fall of 2023.
Simon A. Lee is a Ph.D. student working on representation learning for Electronic Health Records (EHR) data with Dr. Jeffrey Chiang. He is interested in finding ways to efficiently and effectively learn low-dimensional representations from high-dimensional data using modern artificial intelligence techniques (e.g., LLMs, BERT, deep learning) to extract maximum information from this disparate data source. He is also broadly interested in algorithmic improvement and is currently working on projects where he modifies popular machine-learning techniques to enhance them in specific applications or performance metrics. In his Ph.D., he hopes to tackle more problems in this area as well as pursue new and "trendy" research topics like digital twins and multimodality during his studies. In his free time, he likes to travel, spend time with people, and make memories. He hardly ever has free time because he doesn't believe in it. He writes a monthly blog, and his whereabouts are largely unknown outside the 9-to-6 schedule on weekdays.
