This past summer, the Bruins-In-Genomics (BIG) Summer Undergraduate Research Program was held virtually for the second time. 44 UCLA faculty mentors and 91 students from all over the country participated. Collaboratory workshops, led by postdoctoral researchers in the Institute for Quantitative and Computational Biosciences, helped students develop skills in the Unix command line, NGS data analysis, R Programming, RNA-Seq, and BS-Seq, which they then applied to research projects. The 2021 program culminated in an innovative virtual research symposium where students presented the results of their work. Watch their presentations on the BIG Summer 2021 website! The program was an overwhelming success, and we look forward to hosting BIG Summer again next year.
The Application for BIG Summer 2022 is open! The early application deadline is Monday, January 3rd, 2022. The final deadline is March 1, 2022.
UCLA students: If you are interested in applying and have not yet taken a core Bioinformatics course, we suggest you do so this year!
