Dr. Valerie Arboleda inducted into ASCI

Professor Valerie Arboleda was inducted into the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) on April 8, 2022 during the AAP/ASCI/APSA Joint Meeting in Chicago.  She is one of 95 new members this year.  The new members come from 46 different institutions and represent excellence across the breadth of academic medicine. 

Dr. Arboleda (Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Human Genetics, and Computational Medicine) joined the UCLA faculty in 2018. Her research integrates large-scale data sets to improve our biological understanding and clinical treatment of human disease. Dr. Arboleda has a Ph.D in Human Genetics and an MD from UCLA. She completed residency training in clinical pathology with an emphasis in molecular genetic pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. She received the NIH Director’s Early Independence Award in 2017 and a number of other prestigious prizes and fellowships.

The ASCI comprises more than 3,000 physician-scientists from all medical specialties representing the rich diversity of backgrounds inherent to those they serve. The ASCI is dedicated to the advancement of research that extends our understanding and improves the treatment of diseases of all people, and members are committed to mentoring future generations of physician-scientists of diverse backgrounds and biomedical disciplines. The organization is focused on the special role of physician-scientists in research, clinical care, and medical education, in addition to leadership roles many members hold in academic medicine and the life-sciences industry.

Election to the ASCI is a milestone in the physician-scientist career path, and the ASCI holds its members to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, mutual respect, and collegiality.
